WINE ROADS IN MASSA MARITTIMA
|
|
"Monteregio
di Massa Marittima" wine road passes through
the area of the Metallifere
Hills, in the Upper
Maremma Grossetana.
Along the way you will be astonished for the beauty
and the variousness
of the landscape, inscribed between the hills
and the sea, and till nowadays, protected from the
mass tourism.
|
The wine road of Monteregio, built in July, 1998, apart
for its food-and-wine importance, it
gathers an interesting richness as far as the artistic,
historical and environmental field.
|
| |
From the area
inscribed by the wine road of the Monteregio of Massa
Marittima are born eight
D.O.C. typologies of wine: from the red wine of
Monteregio to the Vin Santo "Occhio di Pernice"
and the white wine.
The traveller along the wine road will meet a natural
environment where the peculiarities of Tuscany match the
characteristics of the wild Maremma. All the villages
along the road are rich in history and many are the environmental,
artistic and historical facts. |

|
It is considered
the main town in the area of Maremma Grossetana. Its name
has a double meaning: indeed Grosseto is the "bigger"

It is a lively and cheerful
town, set almost at the edge of the province, few
kilometres far from the sea. It is made up of an ancient
centre, enclosed by mighty walls, where after the modern

white striped façade. Inside the Duomo there are

snake-eagle or the small
common kestrel etc.) and for few years
also the storks has been reintroduced by the centre.

The area of Scansano is worth of note also for
a jewel of its agriculture, i.e. "Morellino
di Scansano" - an excellent D.O.C.

and Alicante grapes.
The wine has a warm and earthiness flavour,
ruby red that becomes garnet red with the
ageing, qualified as "Riserva", with
a fragrance of ripe strawberries blended with
the Mediterranean flora, about 12°. It perfectly
matches both the typical Maremma dishes and fish.
